install a bigger hard drive

im wondering how hard it would be to do myself,i currently have 40GB of hard drive,im wanting to upgrade it to 60GB,i do still have the windows xp cd that came with my laptop so im thinking of taking out this hard drive and putting in the new one,and booting from the setup disc

you operate on a computer, even more so with a laptop. Hard drives are one of the easier swap outs as it usually involves a few screws and a release mechanism. The makers website may offer more information and certainly a Google search will help.

Clone it. . .

If the new HD came with cloning software it should be easy. This will copy the contents of the old HD to the new one. All you really need is a vacant HD slot in the PC.

If you have neither, XP will allow the reinstall. But you may loose important "stuff" from the old HD unless you can save it first to CD or DVD media.
