There is no written procedure to do this. I'm only guessing you want to preserve files, programs and settings along the way, but again, this is not documented or supported (as a method...)

Windows 98 has many of the same ills as Windows ME (albeit a few less!), and why I moved my wife's machine from ME to Windows 2000. That was quite the upgrade.

Bob

PS. The move from ME to 98 involves...

deleting files in C:\Windows (not all of them!)
booting with a Windows 98 diskette and typing FDISK /MBR as well as SYS C: and them installing Windows 98, then drivers and programs.

Since this is not supported in any form and files are at risk, you backup what you don't want to lose and I can't tell you more.

Your safest bet is still.....

....to back up your stuff, reformat the hard drive and install Windows 98 "clean." This is the surest way to keep any remnants of ME from giving you any further problems.
