install 2nd hardrive i\o problems

by starzstudio / October 14, 2009 4:50 PM PDT

I installed a 2nd hard drive on my pc and used disk mgt to asign it to d and activate it, now it reads healthy, but when I try to open drive d using my computer I get an error message about i\o problems. the hard drive I installed was not formated because I wanted to keep the files on it, it has win xp as an opperating system on it too. would this cause it not to open?? how can I open it to remove the xp os from the added drive if this is the problem ??

You May Need To Take Ownership Of the Drive/Files
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / October 15, 2009 11:41 AM PDT

The link below should help and it shouldn't matter whether the XP operating system was originally installed on the drive. (You didn't mention the operating system of the "main" hard drive on the new system, PLUS you didn't mention whether the HDs are IDE or SATA drives PLUS you didn't mention whether the second/D drive was set as a slave drive on its jumpers.. Such information would surely help if the link below doesn't get it done.;

Hope this helps.
