Question

Inspiron with glitchy keyboard and intermitant shutdown

Jan 4, 2015 3:42AM PST

I have a Dell Inspiron N5040 that has issues with its keyboard. It runs Windows 7 Home with 4 GB ram, and is stock. It will repeat typed keys if they are pressed at a rate of more than about a key every five seconds. This problem only occurs when using the internal keyboard. I have tested it using an external Dell keyboard. It also has issues with intermittent shutdown. I do not know what causes the shutdown, and the only condition I have managed to find is it happens less often under Linux than Windows. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Replace the keyboard and while inside clean it with the usual canned air?

I'll have to try that

I'll take it in somewhere because I don't trust myself working in such a small space as a laptop case.
