Inspiron 9300 fan running constantly

Mar 8, 2006 11:52PM PST

Is there anyway to shut things down or an application that I can run in order for my computer to use less and cool down without the noisy fan? I had nothing running at all and even logged out last night, and this morning the fan was still running at 11:00 when I got back from class. Thanks.

(NT) (NT) Why not let it standby?

If you splurged for a P4 or Pentium M chip, then there's a good chance there's a performance throttler program you can use. If it's a Celeron or Celeron M, you're out of luck, and using a program to reduce the fan speed could lead to irreparable damage.

Personally, I'd put it into standby or turn it off if you're not going to use it and the noise is a bother.
