I'm trying to fix a password issue. The message is "The user profile service failed to logon" - I have some procedures fot his but I am not able to get into Safe Mode using F8 on boot. F2 and F12 also does not work. Any suggestions?

If you have another admin ID, use that. Otherwise

...get hold of NTPASSWD. What happens when you try F8? I've never had it fail for me. I take it you don't have a backup either?

When you've gotten your system back like you want it, I urge you to get yourself an external hard drive and a good 3rd party backup program. You can set it up to do everything automagically at the time and frequency of your choice. 1 TB external hard drives are about $65 these days and a really good FREE backup program is the Easeus Todo Backup Free. That can save you a lot of time and frustration the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

Good luck.

Answer
There's NTPASSWD

I'd try the usual NTPASSWD as it's free and about 5 minutes to see if that's it or not. I have found folk reluctant to do this work and can't guess why given the price and short amount of time it takes.

Given your other post that no user files are at risk, you could restore the machine to its factory condition if there is no other recourse.
