Inspiron 6000- LCD screen goes blank at boot screen.

Aug 27, 2009 9:30AM PDT

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, running Windows XP SP2, with 2 GB Ram, and a 15.4" LCD display.

The problem I have is that when I start up my laptop, at the boot up screen the LCD suddenly turns off. I see the boot screen for about 1-2 sec and then it goes blank. The computer continues to run and windows starts up normally because I hear the start up music just fine.

I tired using an external monitor to see if the problem was my video card. There were no problems present in the external monitor and the computer ran normally. Everything was displayed and ran as it should.

I then thought it was a loose connection and opened up my laptop to check the connections. After checking all the various connections I again tried my laptop LCD screen and it still would not work.

I tired changing the display between my external monitor and my LCD screen using the ******* + display key, and it would work on my external but not my LCD screen.

So I have come to the conclusion that there must be a problem with either the LCD screen itself, the LCD connector cable, or the power inverter.

Is there anybody out there with any suggestion or solutions?

Thanks for reading this and I hope that someone can help me out.

Thanks for the response but after trying out the solutions is still does the same things.

But while I was trying out the solutions I came across some more information. It seems that my screen isn't going completely blank but the back light simply turns on for a sec and then turns off. If I view the screen at the right angle I can see my desktop being displayed.

This was also proven when I unplugged the LCD cable connection that connects to the power inverter located directly under the screen. Every time I unplug it and replug it the screen comes on for a split sec then the back light turns off. Also the color of the back light is a peachy/rose color. I don't know it that factors into my problem but I think the back light should be white, no?

Again thanks for reading this and I'm looking forward to any more suggestions or advice.

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view&current=new2old.jpg shows how CCFL tubes age and shift. The oldest is on the right at 8 years, then 5 years and the good display is just a year old.

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-19681_102-0.html?threadID=352085&tag=forums06;forum-threads shows more about troubleshooting and if you feel it's the inverter or CCFL tubes then replace those. Cheaper than a new laptop.

Now be sure you boot up a LINUX LIVECD (see google) because there is an issue about ACPI and that lid switch. I've seen people lose months over that.
