Inspiron 1545 only boots sometimes.

I have an Inspiron 1545 with Vista on it.
Recently it has started shutting itself off during the boot up sequence sometimes (Not every time)
When it does shut down the fan starts (you can hear it) but then before anything appears on the screen it shuts itself off and the power light goes off. This happens both when it is connected to the mains and when it is running off just battery. When it does boot (not very often) it says battery 100% and it works fine. Anyone else had a similar problem or anyone got any ideas?
Its driving me potty.

Issues I've run into.

In no particular order.

1. Found paperclips, staples in the machine. Luckily removing them from inside the laptop fixed it but had to note it on the repair slip and void any warranty from the shop.
2. Found the vents to have lint. Got the ok to clean the insides and apply fresh heat sink compound.

Just asking. Did any one tell you about the yearly vent cleaning?
