from the Dell recovery partition or with the disks made from it? Or from a generic Windows Vista DVD?
If you followed the Dell recommended procedure, and it still doesn't work I'd contact Dell. It could just be a hardware issue. They will know.
Hello, I hope someone can help me to solve the following problem:
after reinstalling Windows Vista HP on my Inspiron 1420 laptop, laptop (integrated) speakers do not work anymore. When I play audio files, there is no sound coming from the speakers, but I can hear the sound in the headphones!
The sound icon in the right corner of the task bar looks as if everything works fine (there is no cross or anything). When I go to Control Panel - Sound, I see three playback devices:
1. Digital Output Device (SPDIF) and the sign "Working"
2. Speakers (High Definition Audio Device" and the sign "Not plugged in" and an red arrow down)
3. Speakers (High Definition Audio Device" and the sign "Working" - I guess these are the headphones.
I tried to (re)-install the Sigma Tel Audio Driver (either from the CD or downloaded from the dell website), but I could not finish installation getting the following message: "Exit:Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run again".
Following advice in the forum on a similar problem, I uninstalled the modem and audio drivers but Windows keeps on reinstalling them automatically back. I also disabled the modem driver and uninstalled the audio driver - the Windows reinstalled it back and the sound is still not working.
Please, tell me what else I can try.
