Insipid printer issue

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this.

Lately my computer and printer seem to be on the rocks (I apologize for the crappy joke), a few times a week my printer refuses to print anything. Control
panel won't even open. It tells me that there is an unknown error. I
have to restart the computer to be allowed to print.

Windows Vista and my printer is a Brother MFC-885CW

Any ideas on my issues? I don't have any computer viruses.

Thanks in advance,
