Put in another cd. If it does the same thing, then it's time to get another drive even though it's only 4 months old.
...but it is, and I have NO idea what's going on, and I've wasted two good days of PC work because of it.
So I have a Gateway DX4822 running on Windows 7, cd/dvd drive, 6 gig memory and 1 tb hard drive, that I bought at the end of December (so this PC's just shy of four months old for me). I haven't had any problems with my music player or anything else yet. Usually when I *do* have something weird, I can kind of figure it out.
This time out, I'm using my trusted music player, Media Monkey--again, had absolutely no problems in the past. I've also used the drive before, when getting some info from an old computer and transfering it to this one. No problems with anything.
However, yesterday and today while having MM open, I put in one cd, and MM decides to show the dreaded "Not Responding" at the top. First time, I let it sit there for a bit, and about an hour later it still didn't do anything, so I force-ended it using Task Manager. Which, weirdly enough, didn't work either. In fact, that caused everything else to freeze!!
After about another hour's worth of wasted time, I did a hard shut-down and rebooted...and again, am currently having Windows take a look to see what the heck happened.
I've had my share of weird PC issues...but this one makes no sense to me. Any ideas???
[Oh, and for the record, I have Norton 360 as my PC cleaner, and yes, I have *NOT* had any problems with it before, despite what anyone else has said about it in the past.]
