Insecure wired Pc on wireless network

May 25, 2005 10:01PM PDT

I have a wireless router (d-link DI-524) attached to my cable modem.
My main Pc is cabled to the router
My sons Pc is wireless Lan..(802.11g)
Both pc?s are running winXp (sp2) firewalled

A wireless network is in operation and working great with full file, printer and internet sharing, the wireless connection is wep protected and was set up using
Xp?s wizards. The workgroup on both Pc?s is the same ?ourworkgroup##?

However on putting a 802.11g card into a new pc I?m building, I find that it scans and finds 2 available insecure wireless networks ?MSHOME? & ?LINKSYS?. This new pc can connect to both, giving it access to my shared docs and internet access. ?MSHOME? & ?LINKSYS? are to old work groups I used before I went wireless.

1) how does one delete old work groups
2) how does one protect the main pc on the cabled link. XP set-up wizard doesn?t appear to offer any protection on set-up of home networking because its by cable .

Hope that all makes sense and someone can offer advice

thank you
