Question

Inquiry about Windows 7 Features and Programs

Aug 18, 2011 5:39AM PDT

I have an HP Pavillion P6823W Desktop, trying to adapt from XP, this system only running Starter Windows, Word, Live Mail, etc.
Is there any way to transfer and import my Outlook Express email folders from my Dell into Windows Live Mail?

Also, I don't like Windows Live Movie Maker, less effects than XP's WMM which was also user-friendly. I can still run Cyberlink's Power Director that exported the video into AVI, then in WMM for effects and Producer for editing and burning.
Is there any free download that compare to XP's WMM?

I also lost Nero Express, anything that compares to it and runs on Win 7?

I'm trying to regroup after losing my Dell to lightening recently.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

this link tells you how to go about importing OE messages into Live Mail. It mentions Vista but the process is the same for Windows 7 -
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Import-messages-into-Windows-Mail-from-Outlook-Express

Couldn't tell you anything about alternatives to Movie Maker as I don't use them but this might do:

If not try this link - http://www.google.com/search?q=alternative+to+windows+movie+maker

To replace Nero you can use CDBurnerXP which despite the name also supports DVD burning and both Vista and Windows 7

Update on one of the links for Alternative to WMM
Aug 19, 2011 4:20AM PDT

Just wanted you to know the Video Spin software as an alternative to Windows Movie Maker for Win 7 was just for XP and Vista. It really looked promising, but won't run on Win 7.
I'm still looking for a free download to replace my WMM from the XP version. I saw a lot of other people not liking the Windows Live Movie Maker, it is such a departure from the many effects and ease of use of the WMM XP version. I'll keep looking, checking out the second link through google.
Thanks

Actually it does run on Windows 7 ...

Just like almost every other application designed for Windows XP and higher as they are backward compatible.

Give it a try.

Spin Video
Aug 19, 2011 12:40PM PDT

I guess I assumed since Vista was the last OS listed it wasn't for Win 7. Thanks will give it a try.
While looking at the other link, I found SoThink Movie DVD Maker, went to the site and it was similar to WMM but it had no effects or editing capabilities, so will try Video Spin. Thanks again.
