Inquiry about recording of audio streamed from the internet

Aug 24, 2015 3:39PM PDT

I want to be able to listen to and record audio from an online source.

My cable DVR allows one to watch current programming from any previously recorded point while it still continues recording to completion.

What are the best ways (if any) to do this with audio on a computer? I'd like the ability to play the "track" from it's start (or any other part) without messing up it's ongoing recording.

I also wonder about how the audio from the browser might factor into this.

Any genuine help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

With web sites you ask them how to download it.

That way you never have to capture it. And no about streaming this and that and recording one but not the other. It's a PC, not anything like the DVR.

I'm not just trying to play it after the fact.

The reason I even asked this question was specifically for the live recording & live listening purposes. I want to be able to listen to it on delay while the very same audio source is still recording.

Surely there'd be some software and/or hardware that would make this happen (?).

Sounds like it's time to get a developer.

I don't see any off the shelf solution but a programmer+developer could craft something for you.

check browser addon/extensions

it is really going to depend upon the format the audio is being saved in. In the past I have been able to watch movies while it was still downloading by going to the download folder with vlc the default player, click on the partial movie. If the download is slower than the viewing then you will have to wait to get the rest of it. I am pretty sure you can do the same for audio. VLC will play audio only. Just go to the browser addon section and see if there are any that will save audio files.

On thing, you need to make sure you are not violating any copyright laws by saving the audio you are wanting to listen to. so be sure the read the sites terms of service.
