Infrared Remote Control

Dec 11, 2009 5:58PM PST

I am looking for an infrared remote device to control components in a cabinet with closed doors that obstruct the line of site required by infrared. The components are a Panasonic DVD player, VCR and Time Warner Cable box. I plan on putting the small infrared receiver in my cabinet behind a screen of speaker cloth. The whole idea is to have all components hidden except for my flat screen TV.

Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer and device?
Will ONE device be enough?
Are they difficult to set up for a layman?
Can infrared penetrate speaker cloth?

OMG - After a doing a bit of research I am realizing I am a complete dinosaur! It looks like I am asking for advice on a UNIVERSAL REMOTE. I am looking for one that does the above....and that is EASY to program. Is ther such a thing or do I need to hire an AV consultant?
