Information overload!

My quest to find the best camcorder with the most optical zoom has gone down two paths. I have asked about the three brands that come with 30x or higher optical zoom (Panasonic PV-GS59, Samsung SC-D366 & JVC GR-D395. Features and specifications on these three are very similar.
The other path suggested by tipit008 was to go with a Canon or Sony with a lower optical zoom but better 35mm equivilant at the long end of the spectrum. Then to get a 2x telephoto lens from Raynox or Tiffen and boost the zoom without loss of clarity at maximum zoom.
What specification and number should I be looking at to determine which camcorders will give the best long range image clarity?

Don't fall for specs.

The clarity is something that you'll have to get a tape from each one in the situation and lighting conditions then play each one to find the winner.

Of course without the shoot out, you won't know that the lower spec unit actually won.

The best specs may not mean its THE camcorder for you.
