InfoLink via WiseLink Link Stick - Network defaults to cable

Nov 27, 2008 6:14AM PST

Hi everyone,

I just finished setting up my LN46A650A1F with an InfoLink connection to my wireless router through the Link Stick. It works great (although I would appreciate the USA Today box in the corner to fold up or fade away).

But when I turn off my TV and turn it back on, the Network default under Setup has returned to 'Cable' instead of 'Wireless'. It happens every time and we have to go to the Setup Menu to change it each time we want to use it.

Any idea how to set a new default?

InfoLink
Nov 27, 2008 6:18AM PST

iknc4miles,

Two questons:

1. Do you have the lastest firmware update?
2. Do you use a power strip that essentially unplugs the television when you turn it off?

Keep me posted, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the quick response

1. Yes. I have firmware update 2007.0 on the TV.

2. The TV is never unplugged (not even essentially). Verified by the red light that is on the TV when it is off.

Hope this helps.

I'll check with service...
Nov 27, 2008 11:58AM PST

I'll check with service to see if they've heard of this. I don't know why that would be happening. I don't suppose you have a computer hooked up to the ethernet port in the back for PC Share software, do you?

I'll give you a heads up as soon as I know.

No such luck
Nov 27, 2008 1:00PM PST

Sorry, no such luck that the ethernet port is being used. In fact, we got the link stick so we didn't have to worry about running a LAN line to the TV.

I'll just leave it disabled at startup for now.

Thanks for the great support!

Mine does the same thing ... need to reset to wireless everytime I want to use it.

2007.0 also?
Dec 5, 2008 7:37AM PST

flybouy,

Do you also have the 2007.0 firmware?

And do you know if the problem started after the firmware was applied?

Keep me posted.

Same problem with infolink
Dec 5, 2008 9:40AM PST

Not sure what the firmware version is. If I go to setup and then to software upgrade and click the info button I get a lot of information that ends with 2008-08-05.

It appears as though the linkstick is not even being detected after the TV is turned off and then turned back on since The Network selection option is set to cable and dimmed so it cannot be changed.

Whether the linkstick gets detected seems to depend on the power up sequence of the TV, the wireless router and input source (in our case Dish Sat). The sequence that always works is to leave the Satellite off, turn on the router and then turn on the TV. The TV then detects the linkstick and allows me to change the network selection back to wireless. The Dish Sat receiver can then be turned on and all is well. I can succesffuly ping the LinkStick from other computers on the network at this time. If I then turn off the TV and leave the Wireless Router on along with the Satellite receiver and then turn the TV back on, the network selection is set back to cable and dimmed out. Also, the LinkStick cannot be pinged at this time.

Also, please note that I am not using DHCP; I thought that DHCP might be the cause of the problem so I have set the LinkStick to use a static IP address outside of the range DHCP assigns.

Same problem with infolink ... Firmware version

Firmware version is 2004.0; however I have had no problems with TV shutting down.

Both ports?
Dec 5, 2008 12:07PM PST

So would it be correct to say that you have a wired ethernet and the wireless InfoLink stick in at the same time?

Both Ports?
Dec 5, 2008 9:40PM PST

No, the TV is connected to the network via the LinkStick wireless connection only. The cable connetion is not used.

Same for me

Samsung HDTech, my TV is in the same configuration. No LAN cable connected and only the Linkstick in the USB port.

Another one...
Dec 7, 2008 7:29AM PST

Hmmm..

It appears that opening up an investigation is probably the next logical step. If you guys haven't already, could you please list your firmware update version?

If you're NOT experiencing this issue, could you also maybe chime in if you see the same model reported and you DON'T have this issue with your firmware update version?

Let's figure this out.

Question.....
Dec 8, 2008 5:21AM PST

By chance, anyone experiencing this issue; do your picture settings default back to previous picture settings as well? Could you try to change your settings, turn off the TV, and turn it back on and see if they stay where you left them?

Diagnose attempt....
Dec 8, 2008 9:08AM PST

flybuoy,

I was thinking that your television might have been on Shop Mode and was reverting the settings back every 30 minutes.

Just to check, press the volume up button on the television for 1 second, and then lift off and press the menu button on the television for about 15 seconds. It should blink and say either "Dynamic" or "Shop Mode". You want to repeat that until you see Dynamic.

Try resetting your settings again to wireless, and turn the TV off and see if that doesn't help.

Keep me posted!

Shop mode
Dec 8, 2008 9:54AM PST

The TV was not in SHOP Mode, it was in dynamic mode. I think the problem is related to the LickStick software or firmware only. All other TV functions work properly and all other settings are retained when the TV is Shutdown.

SHOP
Dec 9, 2008 4:45AM PST

flybuoy,

Shop Mode will revert to Dynamic. Every 30 minutes, it resets all the settings back to Dynamic mode, and this LinkStick symptom is a common Shop Mode symptom. Before you go through the trouble of having a tech come out, let's check the easy fixes first.

Put your set in Movie Mode. Turn your television off. If it comes back in Dynamic, you're in shop mode. That would be the source of your problem.

If you switch it to movie mode, and it comes back on movie mode, then let me know.

It could very well be the television, but LinkStick has not had any reported issues or loss of use with FW upgrades.

Service...
Dec 9, 2008 11:53AM PST

flybuoy,

I spoke with service earlier today, and they noted that if the symptoms shown in your InfoLink are not resolved with the shop mode toggle, that it may be that the internal electronics aren't working correctly.

Either way, I don't want you to feel like you're being asked to do a million things to self-diagnose a feature that should be working correctly. Why not give 800-SAMSUNG a call and have a service tech take a look at your unit? I want your issue to be resolved quickly, and I think this may be the best way to do that.

Keep me posted.

Shop Mode
Dec 10, 2008 10:37AM PST

By the way my TV is a LN46A650. After following your instructions last night, I am now stuck in Shop Mode! Have no idea how I got there since the TV never did "blink and say Shop Mode" no matter how long I held the mode button down. My question now is how do I get this thing out of shop mode? I no longer care about the stupid LinkStick; but I would like to get this TV working again!!!

Shop Mode...
Dec 10, 2008 11:00AM PST

Flybuoy,

There are two possible ways.

1. Press the Menu button on the TV down for 15 seconds. You'll see the picture change, and possibly "Dynamic" will flash in the middle.

2. The other one is to push the menu button up for a second, let go, and THEN press the Menu button on the TV down for 15 seconds.
