Infolink Canadian content for A650 TVs

On a number of forums there are discussions about being able to upgrade 2008 7 series TV's so that the Infolink can receive Canadian content (Weather). Will this upgraded firmware be made available for the 6 series TV's also? It seems that most of the work has been done by setting up the content provider (Yahoo) so a minor change in the firmware would be easy, no?

I have little information about the firmware updates in the US, and unfortunately, even less on Canadian firmware. The best I can offer is to call the customer service center in Canada and see if someone there will be able to assist, or check the website to see if you have the latest firmware update from the Canadian website.

Thanks for the quick response. Yup, I do have the latest firmware. As an example for A750 TV's, the firmware for Canada and the US are two different files. The comments even warn you that the firmware is in intended for the respective country. I was hoping you could nudge the powers that be to provide an update on the Canadian Samsung site so we A650 owners could also access the Canadian content not just the US content.

I'm gonna say it like it is - I have very little pull with issues from countries other than the U.S. The best I do is send to to the service department to escalate, which I have done prior to writing this. I have a colleague in Canada who knows what we do here, and perhaps he can follow up.

Don't worry. I won't be disappointed if don't see a firmware update appear for the A650 addressing this issue. But it never hurts to ask politely....

I got a response from our Canadian service center this morning.

There were no Canadian news channels that wanted to participate further in the program. Since USA Today is a U.S. based company, their participation is for one region.

So InfoLink can be used in Canada, but it will require a U.S. based zip code, and stats for that zip code will be delivered.

I wish I had a better answer, but that's what I've got.
