info on how to tether a laptop to a Android V. 2.2.1

I have a droid v2.2.1 with the data pkg and am looking for away to link my laptop to it when I am someplace with no service for the computer. There is a tether hookup with Verizon but it has a data pkg that goes with it and it can get pricy. With the Droid I have the data pkg with no extra cost added in. I would like to use the laptop on the phone with it looking like it was the phone wanting the info and not the laptop so that I do not have to have 2 data plans. Anyone heard of this?
