After seeing too many tablets over the past few years.

None are perfectly scratch proof and the only scratched screens I've seen are user induced. That is they tossed it into a backpack without a sleeve. Not one scratch I've seen can be attributed to a user's finger.

So far you're spot on.

I bet that if you lived on a beach and continually put sand on the finger tip then maybe you could fog it up after a year but scratches without good cause are rare. We must have dozens of tablets at the office now (porting apps, etc.) and not one has a big scratch from using them. We do however put them into a sleeve or such before putting them away or into a carry all.

Let me share a more personal experience.
Aug 29, 2012 4:39AM PDT

I have a HTC Evo 4G that is approaching 2 years old. It is not gorilla glass and I did take care to not put it into my pocket with change or keys. It's just 23 months old and not one scratch on the screen. I did add a little slip on protector to give it an little more resistance to damage if I dropped it but that's it.

My thought is that screen protectors are a personal choice along with cases. In my case I don't think I drop these often enough to warrant an Otter box. I can't remember dropping any of these. Some folk do suffer from the dropsies so they need more.
