Question

inernal storage drive

Jan 20, 2012 9:45AM PST

I am looking for an internal SATA II storage drive. I was unable to locate a post(s) on this subject without extensive manual search.
I have an HP Pavillion desktop with 4GB RAM, 3.0 GHz, 640GB hd, SATA II. There is an open PCI Express socket on my motherboard.
I desire a 500GB internal storage drive to work beside my 250GB external drive. Also an expansion bay on my CPU.
What specifications should I be looking for? Cache 32 or 64 MB; what is the difference, other than price?
I beleve the installation should be easy.
Is this a fairly standard item, or are there particularly desirable specifications to look for? Is it worth spending more for a brand name product?

This 750GB hd seems to be what I am looking for. Confirmed compatible with Win 7. I have 2 expansion bays, but one is obviously reserved for another disk drive. I have emailed HP to ensure there will be no conflict.
What exactly does 'bare drive' mean? No software, conection cables (data + power), no manual? Is this hd PnP?
However, although they have a Canadian webste, only address listed is Whittier, CA.
I live in Nova Scotia, Canaa and am trying to avoid customs delays/hassels for shipping.
I will look for a shipper of this model in Canada.
I lived in Orange County, CA for 11 years. Should have stayed there.
Thanx again for the advice.

Exactly right . . . the 5 year warranty and product support is directly from the drive manufacturer.

Believe Newegg has a Canadian subsidiary http://www.newegg.ca/

Let us know how it turns out.

I cannot find a canadian shipping location on the Newegg.ca website.
Under 'write us' the address is listed as California. I wish to avoid being hasseled by the Canadian Customs police. UGGGGHHH!!!
