Individual Folder views

Nov 26, 2009 1:12AM PST

Hello,
My desktop computer with Windows Vista Ultimate system allows each
folder located within a folder to display any particular icon, or
list view desired.

For example, Folder 1 shows folders within that folder using large icons.
From there, clicking on a large icon Folder A... I'm able to select
what view is desired within that folder such as List, Details, Small Icons, etc.
The particular view selection does not effect any other folders.

I'm finding that with Windows 7 Home Premium, the desired view setting
in a folder dictates all of its sub folders contents to that setting.
If Folder 1 is set to Large Icon view, all of the sub folders are
set to that view as well, and I'm not able to individually set
the sub folders to a different preference.

Is this an attribute of Windows 7 verses Vista, the versions of the
operating systems, or am I merely lost in figuring out how to set
these folders as I choose?

Thanks in advance for any help provided here.

John

Not sure but

in Control Panel > Folder options, (I assume Win 7 has the same as Vista), it seems likely the "Apply to all folders" was once selected. It is in the View tab of that Folder Options.

If that's the case then it seems all you can do is to "Reset folders" to default. That might remove the 'apply to all folders' setting but I suspect you will have to start customising all over again.

O.K. I've been shown by someone a lot smarter than myself that I was
trying to configure attributes in the "Libraries" which work differently
than the files found under Computer/OS (C:)/Users/Owner/My Documents, etc.

The folder views found in "Owner" do indeed work as desired.

In the meantime, I'll continue to plead ignorant as to how to get the Libraries feature(s)
of Windows 7 to work. They'll remain empty for now.
