Question

Individual File Backups

Sep 11, 2015 10:42AM PDT

I want an app that will backup contents of certain folders on my PC; i do not like the monster backup programs that shove everything into a backup file. Rather i want a facility that will keep N copies of my working files, backing them up every 15 or 30 minutes. I have been using QuikProt but it seems it has gone end of life. any recommendations?

So how about those sync programs.

You didn't restrict this to free apps so look at Syncback and Goldsync. To create N copies you simply have it sync to 2 or more places per your schedule.

Acronis

Just a warning about Acronis 2016.

This has to be one of the worst interface they ever created. So if you want really something simple to use, and do not want to use the cloud as a mean to backup, then I suggest you try something else.

The whole idea behind Acronis 2016 is to use their cloud services, and if all you want to do is to backup to your external USB drive, then you will have some diggings to do, as they obviously do not want you to do this.

But once you find out how to do it, then the backup image is really good. Also they have not yet fixed the link for a universal backup download. I have written to them a few times, but no success.

If you are planning to buy this software, ask them if the Universal backup download has been fixed, and how easy it is to backup to a local drive.

Backup Software

Good day!
Try Cobian Backup.

It supports Unicode, FTP, compression (ZIP, SQX, 7z), encryption (including Blowfish, Rijndael, DES, RSA-Rijndael , incremental and differential backup, for example a differential backup every night (which backs up user files that have changed since the last full backup) and a full backup every seventh night (backing up a full set of user files). Backups can be saved to CD, DVD, USB memory stick, a second hard drive (internal or external), etc. It supports long file names (32,000 characters) for all backup routines.

Hope this could help you.

EaseUS Todo Backup is a tool that you can download and use for free if you're backing up to a local volume. You can schedule it, and it will only back up changed files to conserve space. It would also allow you to back up files to a point-in-time, which can be handy.
