At the office we use Open Office since we didn't want to call Microsoft about such things. I know that's not an answer but it beats the alternative.
-> There is that other issue. Word isn't a great "publisher". It's OK at the smaller documents but as people try to write books or catalogs they discover there are some limits. What I'm hinting at is this is where those type setting or publishing applications pick up. Titles like Frame Maker, Serif and those others by Adobe.
In closing, try Office Update and then call it in. Sometimes Microsoft has a patch they only hand out to those that find the bug.
Bob
XP, 2GB RAM, major ROM, mostly drawing in Autocad, Word newest and updated. Using the MS table maker, continually add to a quarterly-published, technical ebook in outline form currently about 453 pages. Frequently up-dating Table of Contents, Table of Figures, and Index.
Just today and suddenly [previous Index updates today worked OK], up-dating the Index erases all headers and footers.
Closely inspected w/ paragraph icon on and styles & formatting table on and discern nothing extraordinary thorughout entire file.
Dumped the Index and reloaded...same header and footer deletion throughout the text.
Attempted to reload headers and footers after updating the Index, but washed out for a difference in the page count between w/ and w/out headers and footers.
Wit's end this evening.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much for thinking over this one.
