Indeterminate vs Inconsistent

Jun 18, 2006 1:43AM PDT

While the phrase "CNET's podcast of indeterminate length" has a nice ring to it, it's not entirely accurate. Although any BOL podcast is initially indeterminate (i.e. before it's actually recorded), once the podcast is recorded it's length is completely deterministic.

It would be more accurate to say "CNET's podcast of inconsistent length" because it's perhaps closer to the intended meaning and remains correct even after the podcast is recorded and distributed.

Variable not Inconsistent

Inconsistent just has too many negative ideas surrounding it.

Actually, it has been rather consistent. I start the podcast just as I get on the bus in the morning and it is just finishing as I have to get ready to get off the bus.

My take is that the podcast is of indeterminate length before they start. It's not like they sit down with 30 minutes in mind. "Who knows how long it'll go?" "I dunno, cuz at this point its indeterminate!" Wink

AFTER the show, we can look back and say the length is inconsistent or variate or whatever. so its a matter of perspective!

personally i like indeterminate, its much more mysterious! lol.

Agreed Robstak-And my opinion:Inditerminate is far more catchy, and isn't that what a tagline is supposed to be? Sometimes there are things you shouldn't over-analyze. It usually just kills conversations, when you turn done, to overdone. OK, grammar and providing correct information is a good thing when in the news business, but it's a tag line. That tag line was formed out of nowhere a while ago when Molly said some stuff, and they built the tag line, kinda like Phishing Friday, except it actually held out. You have your opinions, I respect them, but that's just my $0.02 on this...

About 25 minutes long

I recently started listening to the podcast on my way home frome work. Don't worry, I'm not listening to the podcast with headphones on while driving but with a radio transmitter. Anyway, the trip home is about 40 minutes and the program CONSISTENTLY ends at a certain point of my journey.

Also sounds like the podcast is done prior to lunch and seems like they're in a bit of a hurry to bail on the show to go munch on burritos or something.

Good burritos in SF?
