Question

Increasing C: drive size

Oct 17, 2016 1:43AM PDT

I recently added another drive to my PC which then made the D: drive partition redundant. The drive which has C: drive partition also ONLY has D: drive partition.
I formatted D: drive and then did a volume SHRINK VOLUME to the minimum size. I then ended up with UNALLOCATED SPACE.
I then tried to EXTEND C: drive but it is greyed out - I cannot select it.
Can I use Windows 7 Disk Management tool (if so how) or can only a 3rd party disk management application work for me? If so please advise if any freeware.

You can't change the partition Windows is running from in that same Windows.

Free alternatives are:
- GPARTED in any Linux distro
- GPARTED on it's own dedicated disc
- running Windows to go from a stick
- running Windows from another disk on your PC (temporary install)
