IMHO.....

....there is no true way to increase the existing RAM in a phone. You can tweak all you want, but it is only smoke and mirrors. SD cards were designed to extend the amount of storage in the device, not as a RAM replacement.

Again, no.

The best you can do is to uninstall as well as disable apps then clear the cache of those apps. That's de rigeur for Android owners/users so again, well discussed.

OK, about the SD card, I see that was answered but let me add that in newer versions of Android there is no move to card feature. Yes you may find an app but it's hit or miss. Some folk want that fixed and that's like entering a tar pit so no, there is no solid fix.

-> But this rarely has to do with hang problems. For hanging I reset the phone to factory condition and do not install any apps to see if it's hardware or some user added app.

Resetting the phone
Apr 3, 2015 7:13AM PDT

I did just that on my phone. There was no place even for updates. Using the computer, I copied and pasted all files on the phone to the card. Of course some files did not move. I backed up all contacts in the simcard, then reset the phone. It has been working great since then.

Rooted?

If you're rooted then you can use an app such as Titanium Backup to uninstall/ freeze bloatware which can free up some extra RAM. May be worth considering (although would likely invalidate your warranty).
