You can browse the contents of C:\ and look for folders from the previous installation, copying out those you wish to keep and deleting the rest. Most likely you'll find multiple Windows folders, and perhaps multiple Program Files folders, the old ones you'll want to remove to restore space. Generally speaking the new ones will have a number after them, such as Windows (1), though you may want to browse the contents to determine which (older ones) should be deleted.
Alternatively, you could browse for and save your personal files to a flash drive and then wipe the hard drive, installing XP Professional from scratch. It's more work, but it lets you avoid having to determine what is safe to delete.
John
i have a compaq presario 6240IN ( 60 GB)having XP HOME and was in the process of doing full recovery using set of 7 recovery CDS that i had made.Initially 5 CDS were accepted, however at the time of recovering CD no 6, i repeatedly received a message "file Base_21.INP" not recovered.thereafter everytime when the comuter was stareted it would go to recovery only with a message "SYSTEM ENVIORNMENT INCOMPLETE" and thereafter recovery would be halted with the above message.
I then installed XP professional and it is working properly but the disc space is reduced to just 5 GB.it seems the previous unfinished recovery is occupying the entire space.kindly assist me in this problem and let me know if there is a way to retrive the data from the previous OS and/or to remove the entire old OS along with the data on it so that enough space is made available on the new XP professional.
thanks
