Why not do a factory reset? (OS reload from factory media or per their instruction.)
If the hardware is good, it will like new.
Hello.
I've been reading the sessions regarding Acer's laptops freezing. Interesting responses from your techs.
I have a similar problem with my Toshiba Sattalite laptop, which is about 7 years old. I've already bought another computer, but I like 'tinkering' and would like to resurect the old Toshiba.
Symptoms are:
1. It will boot up, but not load the monitor (dark screen). If I attach an external monitor, the screen loads, but will not complete the boot. I have checked the monitor on the laptop and it appears the FLC is either burned out, or not loading due to what ever the main problem(s) is/are. If I shine a bright light onto the screen, I can see the display, so the converter is OK.
2. I can boot it up using Safe Mode - Network. Almost every function works normally. There are limitations, of course brought on by running in Safe Mode (no sound, no printer etc).
3. I can not hear the cooling fan running, nor feel any air exhausting from under or from the left side. I can feel warmth, (not hot) air rising through the keyboard. I suspect the fan is either burned out, or clogged up. I have used a device that elevates the computer to help keep it components cool for years. I CAN hear what I believe is the HD running as it stops and starts periodically.
4. What ever the problem is, it will not allow me to do a system restore.
I have run all of the Anti-Virus and Anti-Adware programs I have while in Safe-Mode - Network with no change.
Thank you for your assistance,
Bill K
