Incessant daily security update requests (WinXP, SP2)

I've been getting DAILY requests to update security for at least the last 3 months (that's, let's see, ~90 or so). 90% of these are patches to fix a security gap in Powerpoint: they're all different, and so far I've done ~85 of them. Can't they make ONE patch that'll fix the whole thing? Why dribs and drabs? Then, they occasionally try to sneak in SP3, which I don't want; so I have to review the update each time (despite their "recommendation" to not bother). What's the story??

Since you can't use SP3 then you suffer issues like the one you asked about.

To fix one like that here, I resolved the SP3 issue on the HP AMD machine with this note -> https://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2008/05/08/does-your-amd-based-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx

Now that machine is all updated and only the usual weekly updates.
