Inauguration

Jan 20, 2017 10:14AM PST

It's official now, after the speech.

The power is given back to the people, all decisions will be inspired by the vision "America first", so "Buy American, hire American".

So let me propose that CNET in every review of a non-American product - like Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, HTC, even Apple (made in China) - should show its support by giving a clear warning like:

WARNING (for our American readers only). This is not an American product. Buying it is an unpatriotic act, and won't help to make America great again.

I suppose every Trump fan here agrees with this proposal. Yes?

That would be a corporate decision

however since CNET is owned by CBS, I hardly think that liberal rag would ever allow it. As I've stated before, I go out of my way to research items I want to buy and make a concerted effort to only buy items made in America unless I absolutely have no other choice. It's not necessarily a boycott against other countries' products, but a boycott against their products being so freaking inferior that it's cheaper to buy a new one when (not if) they break or get recalled than it is to try and find a repair shop to fix it.

Or "Made in Europe" please. Remember we're your friends. Without Europe there still would be only native Americans.

just inside one door, "MADE IN USA" product. Plastic drinking cups in many bright choices, made in NC. 50 cents each. At least those high-paying jobs are safe. Smiley Happy

The message on internet was basically that if it doesn't say "Made in America" it is probably from somewhere else and we may not tell you exactly where it came from.

My microwave died, so I bought the hamilton beach $49 special this week.

"Important Made in USA Origin Disclaimer: For certain items sold by Walmart on Walmart.com, the displayed country of origin information may not be accurate or consistent with manufacturer information. For updated, accurate country of origin data, it is recommended that you rely on product packaging or manufacturer information. "

Seems someone has been incorporating some spin in the regs.
Jan 21, 2017 6:53PM PST

I was told that accurate "Country of Origin" was mandatory on retail packaging in the US. If your info is good, then we still get that info only IF we can, and bother to, check online.
BTW I understand that Walmart does what it can to buy American. IMO there's little they can do in the long run.
Also, I think the display had somewhat to do with January 20th; understandable and harmless. Happy

Re: import
Jan 22, 2017 1:50AM PST

From http://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/profile/country/usa/ :

The top import origins of the United States are China ($432B), Canada ($331B), Mexico ($291B), Japan ($128B) and Germany ($121B).

The picture (a few pages down) shows that 40% of your import is from Asia, 15% from Canada, 13% from Mexico, some 20% from Europa, and some 10% from Africa, Australia and South-America combined.

By the way, 13% of your exports is going to Mexico also. Did you steal as many jobs from them as they did from you?

Brunswick Bowling Balls....
Jan 22, 2017 11:46AM PST

originally made in Ohio since its beginning....about 9 years ago (give or take), it moved to Mexico....Mexico couldn't even manufacture them cheaply and moved it off to China instead.

I believe Brunswick was the only bowling ball company in the USA at the time....and now we have none.

The few exports we have to Mexico are things they are usually restricted from making there by their own government, from what I understand.....that doesn't include cars which don't constitute many since nobody there can afford to buy them anyhow.

- Collapse -
Just because they MAKE them there
Jan 22, 2017 12:10PM PST

doesn't mean the people there can afford to buy what they make, JP. At least pay attention.....Reread my last sentence.....it's about EXPORTS TO MEXICO. Your link pertains to what they make and ship out as EXPORTS FROM MEXICO.

Jan 22, 2017 3:52PM PST

autos are NOT sold to people IN Mexico....they are EXPORTED. "Sales" is deceptive, JP.....Mexico gets a portion of the 'sale' price when it gets to the country where they are exported to. A small number of 'young people' getting jobs and gaining access to credit is something new there....many are gang or drug members who pay cash for what they want. Have you traveled to anywhere in Mexico and actually SEEN what the locals drive? It's like being in Cuba with vehicles from the 50's or 60's that they keep 'jerry rigging' to keep running, JP. I've been there, I've seen it.

Jan 22, 2017 7:23PM PST

YOU said nobody there can afford to buy them anyhow.

NOBODY?...REALLY?.... NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON?

I've provided links that show differently....YOU won't accept the proof I've provided...

I shouldn't have to provide "proof" that your statement that "NOBODY" can afford to buy a car in Mexico is false. AND you denying it just makes you look more foolish.

But, carry on....

Government agencies
Jan 23, 2017 3:23AM PST

who buy those cars far outweigh the 'folks', JP......and your capitalizing the word 'nobody' only makes the few folks who CAN afford to buy a car in Mexico doesn't make it even more so. It just shows how liberals pick up on selective words rather than the actual content of the FACTS. When you are talking about a small percentage of the population out of MILLIONS, it actually DOES amount to 'nobody'.

You are soooooo literal and can't deal with 'generalizations', just like the rioters out there. Perfect example was Trump's first statements when he ran...."Mexico isn't sending us their best.....they are rapists, drug dealers, etc.....but I'm sure there are some good ones coming here".....all liberals heard was the part they WANTED to hear and they are STILL acting insane over it as an excuse to riot. BUT we still had thousands pouring over the border to get here in 'time' before Trump was sworn in. But crickets when it comes to BO's deal with Castro regarding the 'wet foot, dry foot' policy that has been in place for over 50 years. Now any Cubans who get caught, even on dry land, coming here will ALL be returned to Cuba.....and they will be jailed or killed. Trump wants illegals deported and he's heartless....BO agrees to let Cubans go to jail back in Cuba or die, and he's a freaking hero for a 'new relationship' with Castro. What happened to the 'refugee' acceptance attitude BO had or is it only important when it's 'global' like the Syrians and can garner lots of publicity for the left for their 'generosity'?

RIGHT...MILLIONS on them....according to TheRUMP...

When you are talking about a small percentage of the population out of MILLIONS, it actually DOES amount to 'nobody'.

Then you should say 'ALMOST nobody'.

TheRUMP said there were a million, a million and a half, people at the inauguration....That's quite a "generalization"

have been pretty good because you have a liberal PM who caters to all you want evidently, AND you didn't have BO dictating what HE thought your 'rights and liberties' should be.

I'm perfectly happy to live through the next four years, JP....He already signed an EO this morning withdrawing from the TPP.....his promises haven't changed, you just refused to actually HEAR them....and he's fulfilling him pretty quickly.

IF you weren't, the only way you couldn't, would be for you to die.

RE:He already signed an EO this morning withdrawing from the TPP.

Don't get too excited about that....

Trump’s threat to pull plug on TPP allows China to take leadership on trade

Other members of the 12-nation grouping could conceivably work around a U.S. withdrawal.

Australian Trade Minister Steven Ciobo told reporters in Canberra countries could push ahead with the TPP without the United States by amending the agreement and possibly adding new members.

China has pushed its own version of an Asia-Pacific trade pact, called the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which notably excludes the United States. It is a more traditional trade agreement, involving cutting tariffs rather than opening up economies and setting labor and environmental standards as TPP would.
