What happens if you create that same directory (folder) yourself? Does that work? And does the program run then? Or maybe it is already present and needs to be deleted first?

Thank you for prompt reply, Kees Bakker.

How exactly do I create same folder?
Verified program not present.

The usual way to create a folder ...

is from Computer or Windows Explorer. Need I say more?

And I didn't mean to check if the program was present, but if the folder happened to be present already.

Thanks, Kees, but yes for me you do need to say more!

I used Win Explorer (IECool trying to install and also unsuccessfully
trying to find the folder.

Sorry, IE8 is Internet Explorer. That's not Windows Explorer. A totally different program. Windows Explore (or Computer, or My Computer as it was called in all versions of Windows before Vista) is a tool to browse through the folders of your own hard disk.

In fact, that's so basic I can't find a ready made instruction on the net telling how it works.

Maybe better try our Vista forum, and repeat your question there. And - for next Christmas - be sure to ask at least 2 of the books from http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=vista

Have no explanation, but ASC now installed/operating normally.
Received email from Brotherhood which included it among a variety of program downloads. So tried it and all went without any difficulty.

As to those Christmas books, Kees, first, at age 90 long term planning is six months! If I'm still breathing I can indeed still be reading, which brings up my second response: I have more reference manuals and 3-ring binders and instructional CDs than you can imagine -- not to mention enrollment in at least a dozen support forums.

I make no excuse for my own computer failings but the only reason for the existence of these and other resources is to educate. Unfortunately, that does not mean any specific problem/solution can be found as-and-when-needed. Even so, interchange with tech savvy and experienced users is much to be preferred.

Cordially,
