I've got two WD Elements 1TB external drives, plus two WD Elements SE 500GB external drives and they are all working flawlessly. Before those I had three Seagate externals & they started off okay but after 4 months all three died on me.
Since I've never owned any brand other than those two I can only recommend WD based on my own experience.
Hello Forum folks.
Last year I bought an Iomega Prestige external 1tb with a Seagate internal. It works great for over a year now being turned on and off constantly, and bounced from room to room to various computers and media players. It's now approaching full, and I want to get another. But Iomega is no longer using Seagate but various brands now including Hitachi and Samsung. I also read that Seagate is crap and that I was probably just lucky. Other models I'm considering are WD Elements or the cheapest line of MyBooks. But going to the WD forums, they seem to have quality control issues of their own. And a completely ignored, unsupported forum. I might add that I do not use any installed software. I want to format it to a blank NTFS drive, and use it like a flash plug&play. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
