IN TEARS- Big Problem FAVORITES

Dec 10, 2004 1:43PM PST

IN TEARS - Suddenly, more than 1/2 My Favorites dissappeared. They were fine last night. I have/had major quantities of important information there, research, etc. I cannot hope to ever reconstruct it. I tried System Restore back one week. Nothing. I use My Favorites heavily, every day. Not only are whole folders missing, also individual sites disappeared that were yet unfiled. There were also some sites listed that I had deleted months ago. I Just Cannot loose all this information!!! What happened? What do I do? ASAP Thanks ginni ladytrickster

Sorry to hear about your problem. You may have to find those web pages all over again. If you found them once and they are still active web sites, they will be there to find a second time.

You can save a list of your favorites and should do so just in case of problem. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to file then import and export. Click on it and follow the instructions. If you use Netscape, go to bookmarks, manage bookmarks, tools then export. Other browsers will have a similar process.

As with all important information, save way from the hard drive. These files are small and could be saved on a floppy or USB drive.

I am sorry to hear that too. Once a month, I go to "Favorites" and send a copy of them to "My Documents" and I send a copy of the whole "My Documents" folder to a CD which also includes my pictures and a bunch of other things and I date it so future reference or in case there is a problem such as you are having. I realize it is too late for that unless you can recover them via the other suggestions but it would be a good practice for the future.

If it was IE you might try using restoration and look for .html files.

Use Online bookmarks rather than local
Dec 12, 2004 10:14PM PST

Try using the online bookmark sites to store the links.

Few examples are the Yahoo bookmarkshttp://bookmarks.yahoo.com

and http://www.mybookmarks.com/

In this way u wont loose the links due to local system problems and you can use them on other systems wherever you go.
