Question

In home networking

Aug 18, 2017 10:08PM PDT

I recently found myself with out internet.. I have replaced my modem and switch as well as had a service tech come to my house with no results.. I have managed to now get signal through my modem and swtich but I can only get signal to one device at a time that is connected to my patch panel.. it doesn't matter what ports I use.. Its as if it will only carry enough signal for one but I cant quite gather how that's possible or what to do to fix or trouble shoot it at this point. The patch panel issue possibilities are just past my understanding..

Just so we're clear.

The usual Modem and a Switch will give you one and only one internet connection. To share your internet connection from the modem you need a router.

https://www.google.com/search?q=why+do+I+need+a+router covers why.

If you had supplied model numbers of modem and switch I could confirm this.

Ok soooo I didn't consider this before because of frustration I suppose.. But I did have a router hooked up before and now I don't.. So if I go Modem-Router-Switch-Patch panel than this should solve my issue? I need to replace my router if so.. it went out on me and so I bypassed it.. I haven't setup a network since I did my own house years ago
