General discussion

In 1975 who said...

"Again and again in recent years, the filibuster has been the shame of the Senate and the last resort of special-interest groups. Too often, it has enabled a small minority of the Senate to prevent a strong majority from working its will and serving the public interest."

None other than Ted, "Chappaquiddick", Kennedy (D-MA) and the Democrats were in control of the Senate. At least he is aware that he is a "special-interest group" member and should be shamed by his current deeds and actions.

Who said "I have stated over and over again on this [Senate] floor that I would...object and fight against any filibuster on a judge."

None other than Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and again the Democrats were in the majority. Unfortunately his deeds and actions show his words to be empty rhetoric.

Who said "everyone who is nominated is entitled...to have a hearing and to...have a vote on the floor. It is not...appropriate...not to bring them to the floor and not to allow a vote."

None other than Joe Biden (D-DE) and yep, the Democrats were in the majority. Like Leahy Biden's words are long on promise but short on action.

Isn't it more than a littly HYPOCRITICAL that all are now singing a different tune then than they are now?

"When I was a leader in the Senate, a judicial filibuster was not part of my procedural playbook. Asking a senator to filibuster a judicial nomination was considered an abrogation of some 200 years of Senate tradition." -- Bob Dole

Don't want to cause confusion among the Democrats who still have some free thought...
Seriously, the Democratic Party reminds me of the machines in the Matrix more each day.

it is going to take some serious reading. The Congressional Record is full of interesting information and I have pointed some out previously such as some things Kerry stated that are in the Congressional Record but he has changed his story since.

many other sources here http://lawlibrary.rutgers.edu/links/govdoc/legishis.html

The Congressional Record for the years between 1875 and 1987 have to be hunted for among the depository libraries and much is only available on Microfilm. Some is available as individual PDF files of individual speeches such as this one of Ted, "Chappaquiddick", Kennedy (D-MA) http://www.rnla.org/Kennedy1975speech.pdf

This page is also helpful http://www.library.wwu.edu/ref/subjects/govinfo/congrecord.htm

Hope that helps.
