Improving System performance

I read a very interesting article on a CNET email re deleting certain programs that run all the time, and aren't really needed - with specific advice on each of them - i can't find it anymore - could you help me with a link to the article - the advice came from a fellow i think called "geek" somethingorother --

For Windows 2000/XP, ignore the first couple of sentences about checking "resources" and the "Performance" tab in the link below but follow the rest of the procedures including the "Services" links at the bottom.

How To Shut Down Unnecessary Start Up Programs
