Improving sound quality on an HDTV monitor

Feb 4, 2005 11:37AM PST

I need help trying to improve the sound quality on my Maxent HDTV monitor, which is connected to an HD cable box and an "LG" DVD/VCR. The location of my TV monitor negates a surround sound set-up, but the sound needs a boost. Can I use a typical computer speaker w/sub woofer system to improve sound? All the components are connected with "monster" cables and surge protector. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
