improving my wifi connection

I'm in an apartment complex with some nearbuy hot spots and I have connected but its vary week there is also internet in the building but on a different floor what is the best device I can get? I just want to connect to something thanks for your help

to do with the distance you are from the router. So if the router isn't controlled by you there isn't much u can do. Also each generation of 802.11 X the broadcast distance get further. You also have different bands 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ. 2.4 is less restricted by walls but has more traffic since houisehold appliances use this band. 5 GHZ is not as popular but walls can act as barriers.
