Question

Improving internet connection with ATT U-Verse NVG510

Aug 19, 2015 1:38PM PDT

I'm trying to improve my wireless connection to my ATT NVG510 gateway/router.

I have an older wireless adapter in my PC that is configured to 802.11N standards.
I'm thinking of connecting my PC to a new AC1200 or AC1900 wireless router with a ethernet cable to it's gigabit port, and removing my wireless adapter. Will this work?
Would an AC1200-1900 router work as a replacement to the ATT NVG510?
The NVG510 keeps loosing its internet connection and needs to be reset almost daily.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

802.11N, AC1200 and AC1900 are Wireless protocals so if you are using Ethernet instead if wireless it won't make a difference. Basically if you the speed would be the same whether you had a router or not is using Ethernet. The advantage of a router with Ethernet you are more protected and you modem has an IP address visible to the internet and a router would be behind the router with a different IP address and would act as a firewall. One thing Uverse uses DSL technology which is usually slower then cable depending on cable. Uverse is 45 MBPS (megabytes per second). I have Bright House cable and I don't have the fastest speed but i have 150 MBPS (300 is the fastest but cost 199/month). The advantage of DSL although most places it's slower you don't have to share with neighbors and cable internet has shared bandwidth with your neighbors.
