Impressions Needed: NEW L2000

Jun 23, 2005 7:52AM PDT

I've been looking to purchase a laptop for college since about 3 months ago. While browsing through hp's selection I came across their special edition Live Strong laptop. Here are some of the hardware specs:

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-37 (2.0GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x76Cool
Graphics Card ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M
1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
6-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader
5.38 lbs

The price for this system is about 1400. Obviously seeing as how it just came out, reviews are not yet available. However just looking at the specs, would someone be able to give me their early impression on the system? How do the Turions stack up? Also as a side note, besides a wireless mouse and a case are there any other essential laptop accessories? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

What country?

You should note what country this is in. I find no service centers in the USA so here I would never suggest such a model.

Country?

The HP L2000 can be found right on the US website. As far as the country that I will be using it in, that would be right here in the US. I heading to college and I'm just looking for something mobile but still powerful enough to handle everyday computing. The L2000 looks to be a pretty good fit but I have questions regarding the Turion's reliability and the X200 graphics power. Any other comments on the system would also be greatly appreciated.

I missed it was HP.

Your first post had hp in small letters and "Live Strong laptop" is some Taiwan/Chinese model which had no US presence.

HP's service centers do exist in the US.

See if CNET reviews has a review yet.

Review Timetable

Reviews from CNET and PCMag for notebooks take anywhere from a week to a few months before they come out. I really might not have the time to wait out a review. Generally speaking though, what do you think about the Turion's? How reliable are they and are they powerful enough to match a PC AMD64 2.0 GHZ? Secondly, the X200 equipped here differs from the X200 express currently offered for the R4000, whats the difference?
