importing mp3-cd onto my ipod touch

I am having difficulty importing my mp3-cd's onto my ipod touch. I put the disc in the cd/dvd drive and it does not prompt me to import the cd (in itunes). I have a run of the mill mp3 player and before if I wanted to put the same mp3-cd's on it, I had to open the files using windows and send the tracks to the mp3 player. When I try to send the tracks to the ipod, the ipod doesn't show up in the box. Help?

go to Preferences > General.

Make sure that "Ask to import CD" is showing in the drop down menu next to "When you insert a CD:"

If it's not, use the drop down to make it so.

If it is, does the CD appear in the iTunes window after it has been inserted?
