Importing emails to Outlook 2003

Feb 25, 2006 12:50AM PST

Due to a problem, I had to reinstall Windows XP Home and, in the process, lost Outlook 2003 (and other things!). After reinstalling Outlook, I then wanted to restore all my mailbox emails and address book from the archive. I found this in D:\My Documents\Personal Folders and set Outlook up to import this. However, when I tried, I got an error message:
YOU DON'T HAVE APPROPRIATE PERMISSION TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION.
I was advised to try:
CTL PAN->INTERNET OPTIONS->PROGRAMS TAB->RESET WEB SETTINGS which I did, but it didn't make any difference. I've never met this problem with Windows before (only Linux!).

Can anyone please help me to retrieve my emails, etc?

Thanks

Importing emails to Outlook 2003
Feb 25, 2006 8:47PM PST

Thanks, Kees.

I went through the (fairly horrendous) procedure but, unfortunately, it didn't work. I'm still in the same position and cannot access all my past emails.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Could Try

Drag your archived INBOX and SENT DBX files [as saved to a CD or on a Floppy] onto your computer's desktop = Now I feel you will find them ''Write Protected]'' [Right Click on the DBX file go to ''Properties'' and uncheck ''Read Only'']

Now there are two ways of using the Archived Files [

1] Use them to replace the INBOX and SENT DBX DBX files in Outlook [Copy and Paste?] may have to reboot your computer?

[2] You can use the Free Program ?Outlook Express 5 Extraction? by = Macallan Mail Solution = which enables you to open and view and read DBX files in Outlook / Outlook Express folders = You can transfer the DBX desktop files one at a time to your computes Inbox and Sent boxes by going to = Toolbar = File = Move / Copy to Folder = The program can be Download from Web Site URL = http://macallan.club.fr/index.htm

With the Address book drag the Address Book to your computer's desktop = I feel you will find it is also ''Write Protected'' - so uncheck ''Read Only'' open the file with a double click = Select one address [have it bright blue] and then = Edit = Select All = [or the ones you require] = drag them across into your computer's Outlook Address Book

Hope may be of help!

One small problem left:

Your answer is about Outlook Express, and that's a quite different product than MS Outlook. The first comes with IE, the second is part of MS Office 2003.

All MS Outlook data is in one big .pst-file. If you can't access it, you've got a big problem.
