Question

Importing a cd into iTunes

Apr 1, 2012 2:00PM PDT

I am trying to import a new cd into iTunes. I insert the cd, and select "Import songs using iTunes". iTunes opens but does not import the cd. I have imported music before and don't remember having this problem. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!!

Recorded CD
Apr 4, 2012 1:22PM PDT

Hi Bob,

Oddly enough Diagnostics said nothing was wrong; however the recording worked after I ran it. Thank you so much for the help!

I wonder.

How old the drive is and how long since the lens was cleaned. The diagnostic does jiggle the head in a new way that can cause drives to come back and read media that didn't before.

Recorded media, especially on RW media is harder to read than CD-R.

The laptop is less than a year old.
Apr 4, 2012 2:42PM PDT

The laptop is not very old. Less than a year. And I haven't traveled with it much. The drive did recognize the cd and I could play it on Windows Media Player, just iTunes was having the problem. It is a brand new cd that I just purchased. I will have to get some more cd's and see if the problem recurs.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

That helped. Let's cover an old Sony DRM nasty.

Very intersesting information.

At least that would mean it was not something I was doing. I will have to check that out. Thank you again!

Answer
Isn't there an option in iTunes that says,

something like "import from CD"?

Don't have iTunes available right now but I'm sure there is.

I'm not seeing it.

That's what it says in the instructions but I'm not seeing it. I am not even getting the list of songs off the cd. All I get is my existing list of songs. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I cannot figure it out for the life of me.

As Bob is pointing out,

Is your Optical device installed and working correctly?

Does the inserted CD/DVD appear on the desktop (Mac) or in My Computer (Win)?

If neither of these happen, then the optical drive is suspect.

Check Bob's post and your Device Manager
