Imagine! A House without DeLay OR Hyde!

Apr 20, 2005 5:57AM PDT
Tthe scramble begins for chance to succeed Hyde.
>> Leading suburban Republicans said Tuesday the decision by veteran GOP U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde to not seek re-election next year could result in a torrent of candidates vying to replace him and create a potentially costly primary contest for a seat that Democrats are likely to aggressively target. And Democrat Christine Cegelis, who got 44 percent of the vote against Hyde last year, has already begun raising money for another run.<<

Of course it won't get you anywhere. Delay will stay. Bolton will be appointed. The Democratic Party will continue to shrink until it is no more....

What is more detrimental to our country

Pork or unchecked power? Term limits would help in both cases.

I agree ...
Apr 20, 2005 11:15PM PDT

... Daschle is just one example of disproportional power. He was first elected by the slimmest of margins, and continued to be re-elected by a state that has TWO Senators and only ONE Representative!

Far too many Senators have been in office longer than I've been alive!

And it's the over-reaching that's turning off moderates. had it not been for his "wag the dog" war in Iraq, Bush and the GOP would have lost big-time, but instead of taking his decreasing popularity as a warning, they've gone even more to the extreme, as shown by Terry Schiavo and the new campaign to undermine the independent judiciary. If FDR couldn't do it when MUCH more popular than Dubya, what chance does HE have?

The US is swinging back to that throwback-to-the-60s SDS leftism! It's true I tell you! I know I said it lots of time before and it didn't happen, but that wasn't wishful thinking, and this time it's really happening! It's what the proletariat wants I tell you! All together now: Hey Hey Ho Ho!

Doesn't square with reality

which is that the Dems are losing ground much more quickly than the GOP. In fact there may not BE a Democrat party in a few years at the rate they're going.

But they keep pushing to the left, leaving voters only one choice--not the one you want.

By the way, I thought the theory was that the Iraq War was so unpopular that it almost lose Bush the election? Face it, without the war issue many who voted for Kerry wouldn't have dreamed of doing so. Bush's popularity started to sink as the war went on.
