Images On Webpage Showing White Box With Red Cross

Mar 15, 2005 12:02AM PST

For the last week my computer has been playing up. Everytime i go on to expedia using internet explorer i do not see any images or some text windows dont show (gif).

All i get is a white box with a red cross. Most web pages are fine, jpegs come on fine. I think its only gif files.

Ive tried everything. Cleared the history and temp internet folder. Removed firewall, Re-installed java etc.

Can anybody help me with this problem. Is it anything to do with applets?

I did follow this microsoft link and did do most the tasks on it to no avail.

Re: redx

Navatwal,

I had the same problem (on two machines) with png-files. Very unclear reason, nothing in the GUI being specific for png, and machines being well maintained (one of them formatted only a month or so ago). Only in IE, not in Firefox.

But going into Control Panel>Add Remove Software, choose Microsoft Internet Explorer, click on Add/Remove button, selecting Repair IE fully solved the problem. It's still a mystery for me, and it might stay so forever. I suspect some form of registry cleaning, but I'm far from sure about that. I found it quite remarkable and was waiting for somebody with the same complaint on these forums to see if it helped there. If it's gif in stead of png (easy to say from the right-click-properties of the box) it's still comparable enough to give it a try. It's not supposed to harm, anyway.

I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with Java or Javascript. That's a wholly different world.

Please let me know if it works.

red x instead of photos

I am having the red x problem on facebook. I went into my control panel, add and remove programs (do not have add remove software) clicked on Interent Explorer 8. There is no place to click for repair IE. Would love to try it if you can tell me where it is. Thanks for your help! I am running windows xp pro with IE 8. This problem was just a few pictures wouldn't load and now it is most pictures won't load. Seems to be progressing???

Webpages Not Displayin Clearly
Mar 15, 2005 5:32PM PST

Like i said earlier web pages are not showing gif images. Everything is fine with outlook express.

I did have ad aware (lavasoft) installed and it did say something about zone alarm if this helps.

All i want is my computer working properley.

The advertisement at the top of the page doesnt view correctly. it shows white box with red cross.

When i click properties it shows this: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm#http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi

Navatwal,

It seems you've got a blocker to ad.doubleclick.net installed. So have I, at home. The advertisement on top the page I'm viewing now is adlog.com.com, but I've got that blocked at home also.

Such a blocker could be a line in the hosts file or it could be an adblocker program/add-on. You're the only one who can tell, because you're the only one having access to the machine.

I'm inclined to say your PC functions quite correctly and according to the intentions of whoever did this setup. If you don't like it: undo it.

Hope this helps.
