I'm no techie but I found through hours of trial and error that you must pay close attention to the names of the files that you import into editing. For example, if your camcorder names a movie...MOV001_1 and you decide to change it, avoid using characters like !, &, and (). The reason is that during the import process, the software either doesn't recognize the character or it changes it and then it can't find it when it tries to edit your movie.
This worked for me, hope it works for you too! Oh, by the way, it doesn't matter if you use the special characters in your titles for the movie clips, it is just the file name itself that it is concerned with.
I recently purchased a Panasonic SDR-H18 camcorder for my wife. She has recorded several videos now and she wants to use the ImageMixer 3 to edit her own DVD and burn it.
She has used the 'Edit Videos' feature to edit a 'movie' (the lack of consistency in terms in ImageMixer 3 is disturbing IMO). It is saved as a movie project file (*.i3e).
In order to burn it to a DVD, I am to open this file again with the 'Edit Videos' feature and save it with the 'Send to DVD-Video authoring' option. It's at this point that ImageMixer goes belly up. I get the 'imx3ve.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close' message and the useless option to report it to Microsoft.
What really makes this interesting is that we were able to burn a DVD at one point. Her first cut of the movie converted to MPG and burned to DVD without any problems. She opened it to make some changes and burn it again. It's this second version that doesn't want to cooperate.
I've looked for patches or later versions of ImageMixer, but there doesn't appear to be any. I can't even find an 'About' box in this version to find an exact version. I've also been unable to find anyone else online experiencing this issue.
We're using Windows XP SP 2. The videos are stored on an external hard drive. If you're interested in helping me with this issue and need more info, feel free to ask me for any details. I'm a software developer and reasonably computer literate.
