Some games will stretch but many will just fill the largest square area.
On my 15.4" widescreen the majority of web pages will only display in the largest square area as well (thus about 14" square on a 15.4" widescreen).
So that is a reason to get a large enough widescreen as a 14" widescreen HPDV1000 would only display a square image 13" or smaller.
Or, of course, if having full size web pages and square screen games is the priority get an 15" square LCD (but that is at the expense of widescreen DVD's and more area for excel spreadsheets and other programs using widescreen which do stretch automatically)
I've got a question about wide screen displays on many recent notebooks, (i.e. 15.4" & 17" screens.) When gaming, does the image stretch to fit the screen, or does the game image simply fill a center portion with blank portions on the sides, (much like watching a widescreen DVD on a traditional 4:3 televison...the black bars along the top and bottom)?? For example, what happens to a game that typically plays in 1024x768??
Thanks for the input.
