Image Capture does not allow downloads from digital camera

Aug 23, 2010 10:49AM PDT

On my Mac running Leopard 10.5, Image Capture has Preferences that allow me to choose an option that opens Image Capture when a USB digital camera is attached. That's gone on my new Mac with Snow Leopard. I never needed camera software to make this work, and unfortunately I have a Canon camera and Canon does not make drivers or software for Snow Leopard. So, how does one get Image Capture to open and download images from a digital camera? Did Apple dumb-down Image Capture like they did to iMovie?

Should work fine, but may not auto open

when you connect the camera.

No special software required for the Canon.

Have you tried opening Image Capture and then connecting the camera. It should appear in the Image Capture window, as you know.

Image Capture Preferences
Aug 24, 2010 9:35AM PDT

P,

I will try again when I get home, but I swear I tried every which way. In my previous version of Image Capture, there was a Pull Down menu for Preferences that allowed me to choose whether I wanted Image Capture to Open when a USB device was connected. Preferences is totally missing now from Image Capture. I see now it has the column on the left where my Epson Scanner shows up, but my camera doesn't. It's odd but both of my Canon digital cameras never made an icon pop-up on the desktop when I plugged them into the USB.

Got it to work

I connected the camera and turned it on, then Image Capture opened. I tried this last night and I swear it didn't work. Oh, I also see where the Preference pane went to. It's in the lower-left corner.

Image Capture doesn't recognize my Canon camera

I'm having the same problem. I see you got it to work but, how? I've tried everything I know to do. I don't have a preferences option in Image Capture but I do in iPhoto. I have Image Capture chosen in iPhoto when a camera is connected via a USB port; but Image Capture doesn't open up when I plug in my camera. I would really like to use Image Capture because I don't like iPhoto.

I have Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.8
