Imac intel duo

Jun 5, 2006 8:43PM PDT

Can somebody tell me why? when in the XP mode of mac intel duo, I can not scan from a HP office jet 5610xi all in one,it will print or fax but that's all, also the camera is not working and you can not install another camera. I have try a logitech quick cam and it will not work, It seems like the USB port will not work in XP mode. It all works very well in the Mac mode. I have been converting from XP but problems do exist, Otherwise it is a nice computer but it has problems in XP mode. Can anybody give me some answers.

Do the ports show up in the Hardware Manager as being correctly installed?
Is the problem limited to ALL things USB or only those things that require specific drivers? I won't ask if you installed the drivers for these things.

Question: If you had this problem with a PC running XP, not a Mac, what would you do?

From what I have read, once XP is running on the Mac, there are no difference between a PC with XP and the Mac. I could be wrong but if your problem was something not just associated with your particular install, I think it would be well posted by now.

Good luck

The only one that show error in the device manager is the scanner of the all in one printer hp 5610xi, and I spend hours with tech support of hp and this could not be resolve, I also have another port showing a error and I presume it is the camera. I try changing drivers upgrade drivers to no avail as well.It seems that it apply to usb that required a specific drivers. It is also to be noted that every time I go back to XP from mac operating system the time on the task bar is always 4 hours ahead. I think the next thing will be to contact Microsoft but i think the problems seems to be in the setup of Xp and bootcamp. What do you think? By the way I also run a Epson photo printer R300 with no problems.

Support for this problem
Jun 6, 2006 3:18AM PDT

Remember that Boot Camp is only in Beta and as such, has no support from Apple. Install and use at your own risk.
M$ is not likely to offer any help either but you may, as suggested, get help by googling.

Can you confirm that the install of XP was done using a genuine XP SP2 installation disk?

Yes the installation of XP was from a genuine sp2 home edition purchase at CompUSA.No problems was encountered with installation. I will keep on looking for help.

Just noting..

The built in camera issue is WELL NOTED and discussed. We'll have to wait and see if a driver is found. As to the other camera's I can't tell if you had "just XP" or a more proper "XP w/SP2" install. I found small USB 2.0 improvements from SP1 to SP2 and USB 2.0 support was non-existent in XP.

These small details do matter but you didn't tell which XP.

As to the scanner, I can share that scanner woes extend all the way back to "real" PCs so there is nothing new here. Your post also didn't reveal if new drivers were attempted.

-> In closing, hit the web and find what webcam people found works and go get that.

the "camera not working" with the built-in iSight camera. I thought he was talking about the Web cam.

Oh well, back to my corner.

The issue is simple. PCs have these issues.
Jun 6, 2006 3:35AM PDT

And turning an Apple into a PC will bring all the PC driver headaches along. While I've learned what to do as well as to cut my losses on some hardware, the lesson is a new one to new owners.

It's a shocker to new owners how perverse XP, drivers, service packs and that the CD that claimed to have drivers for a product may not work. Even more fun is calling tech support. (not.)

Will we need a new mac forum?
Jun 6, 2006 5:21AM PDT

How will we deal with future mac owners asking PC questions? Will we redirect them back to the PC forums or will we need to set up a new mac forum dedicated to XP questions?... and later on, Vista...

I guess it depends on if their are a set of unique problems that are only associated with the Mac/Boot Camp/ XP/ Vista hybrid!

Good point
Jun 6, 2006 9:07AM PDT

Once Boot Camp gets up to speed and the Parallel gets more user friendly, then questions relating purely to Windows would really have to be redirected. Unless, as you say, it is a Mac/XP/Vista thing only.

It's kinda like "I am running XP on my Gateway, Dell, eMachine, Generic, HP, Compaq, add your own PC box here and I'm having this problem"

dual OS and newbie issues
Jun 8, 2006 1:02AM PDT

i came across this in the newbies forum:

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6121-0.html?forumID=45&threadID=22053&messageID=238474

And it caused me to wonder, since i am going to be sticking my figuretive toes ''into'' the dual OS questions waters soon, (1) what startup programs am i presently using in my little old ''windup toy'' iMac OS x 10.2.8 that shouldn't BE running THERE right now today. i read and tried a few suggestions from the mac for dummies book (David Pogue). i kind of GET how to get at those things and turn off a few. But i did this once and caused myself a total disaster. And so quickly turned them ALL back on again. And of course i GET that it kind of has to depend on how i use this toy of mine. But could you make a few generic suggestions of what is REALLY not needed in the startups. i keep ''classic'' turned off these days unless absolutely needed to use my Photo Deluxe pictures editing. Any other glaringly simple and obvious (to you) ones to turn off? (2) and where is it exactly again that i DO this? And if this is not the appropriate thread to post this question, can one of you redirect me? Also, please assume you are explaining this to a rather dim 7 year old and that way others equally uninformed might ''Proffit'' from the wisdom being imparted.

Not an issue Russ

unless you are planning to trade your old iMac for a new intel powered mac you won't be double booting (unless you've been using the old, clunky Virtual PC emulator program). The IBM chip in your old machine won't run boot camp.

actually WAS
Jun 8, 2006 4:13PM PDT

Actually WAS thinking of adding a dual core to my line-up sometime soon ( i bought 2 lottery tickets tonight and feel lucky) but for now i just wanted to tune up the old beast (g3 imac graphic) a little. It is getting kind of full of iTunes and photos i can't part with and such. No i wouldn't DO emulator.
thanks

Good luck on the lottery !
Jun 9, 2006 2:14AM PDT

Hope you win!

I am interested in the dual core myself but I plan on waiting till apple comes out with the optimized OS for the intel machines. I figure that way the hardware will be a bit more tuned up and I wont have to pay for the upgrade OS.

When I bought my first apple it was 6 weeks before Tiger hit the market. I didn't think I should have to pay for an upgrade so soon... apple disagreed. Ce la Vie !

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?forumID=10&threadID=181590&messageID=1991585

i will try a different thread. i was trying to get my question into a context that fit the idea of a fullish hard drive and a slowish ram and trying to speed things up a little until the drawing when i am certain i will become a rich man able to afford the dual core. On another note, do you think the Steve realized that the new iMacs are ugly as compared to the older models ?

dual OS, newbie issues
Jun 9, 2006 12:19AM PDT

Use iPhoto, it's good and is in OSX.x. Also, the dual boot only works with 10.3 or higher. Go to the Apple symbol, click on it and run software update, get all the latest, run Boot Camp, and then enter Windows XP SP2. Keep your Mac up to date. You're very behind the curve on updates, and incidentally, you cannot use a dual boot with the Power PC chip made by IBM. It has to be the Intel chip and it begins at 10.3 which means your's just ain't gonna do it Russ.

Up to date
Jun 9, 2006 8:36AM PDT

russ666 is fully up to date on his version of OS X. There are no further updates for him to download. He does, of course, download the security updates and other stuff.

Your information regarding Boot Camp is flawed, it requires 10.4.6 and the processor in his iMac could have been made by Motorola and not by IBM.
